Felony Franks is a Chicago-style comfort food concept restaurant that only hires people who have served prison time. Our belief is that when people are given an opportunity to work, trained well, valued and respected, that nearly everyone can thrive. However, formerly incarcerated people are excluded from good opportunities to work. The criminal recidivism rate in Chicago is 54%. If ex-offenders can’t find work, how is it possible to reduce this number?

We also work with the Rescue Foundation, an organization that helps businesses hire ex-offenders.

Why the Name

Felony Franks has been a controversial name for a restaurant. Some believe the name is demeaning and disrespectful. We believe the name begins to destigmatize having a felony conviction on your record. When people see hard working ex-offenders delivering a great product, day after day, while knowing they have a criminal past, they begin to accept them into the community. Our candidates will never be able to hide their criminal past as long as background checks are legal for potential employers. Until then, we encourage our candidates to get out in front of it and let the world know they are about the future and not the past.
